September 2024 LMS Transition Update

Modified on Fri, Oct 4 at 12:43 PM

The message below was sent on September 23, 2024, to all Modern States learners who receive email communication from us. It provides an overview of our Learning Management System transition and implications for learners. We will send updated messages as we move towards the transition.

Dear [Learner],

At the beginning of August, I shared information about Modern States’ transition to a learning platform that can better support our growing community. In the weeks since, more than 25,000 learners have created accounts on our new platform. If that includes you: thank you!

We strongly encourage all Modern States learners to review the important information contained within this email.

If you still need to create an account on our new platform, I encourage you to do so in the coming weeks at register.modernstates.org. You can still take courses using your account on our legacy platform by clicking the Log In button at ModernStates.org and selecting Open edX, but our new platform will soon be the only place to take Modern States courses.

Please keep the schedule and dates below in mind:

  • Starting October 1: New accounts may only be created at register.modernstates.org.
  • Starting November 1: New courses may only be started on our new platform. Learners may continue working on courses they have already enrolled in on our legacy platform through December 31.
  • By December 31: All courses on the legacy platform must be completed and related voucher requests must be submitted.

Importantly, progress will not transfer from one platform to another, so if you have any concern about your ability to complete courses on our legacy platform by the end of this calendar year, I strongly encourage you to start using the new platform as soon as possible.

As we undergo this transition, the essential parts of Modern States remain the same: our courses will remain free, we will continue to offer CLEP vouchers, and we will remain focused on making college accessible and affordable to all learners.

We will continue sharing updates about this transition and the exciting development that is happening on our new platform. Create a new account to find out why we’re excited about it!

Best,

Jefferson Pestronk
