Opening a Test Center

Modified on Wed, Jun 18 at 12:32 PM

Learners must take CLEP exams in approved testing centers. Schools, colleges, and other institutions can set up their own testing center with the support of College Board and Modern States.

Steps to Become a CLEP Test Center

No cost to schools

Four key steps:

1. Application

2. Agreement

  • Sign the ETS CLEP iBT.
  • Required for the digital platform.
  • Must be executed by the institution.

3. Training

  • Online, self-paced ETS eLearning modules (~5–15 hours).
  • Certification required for each person administering tests.
  • Each receives individual credentials for test tracking and compliance.

4. Technical Setup

  • Test center setup with school IT support and optional ETS assistance.
  • “Round trip” practice test run required to ensure system readiness.

Estimated Timeline: 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on internal capacity and responsiveness.
