What is Modern States? How do we work?

Modified on Fri, Oct 2 at 11:59 AM

Modern States Education Alliance™ is a non-profit dedicated to making a high quality college education free of cost and accessible to anyone ages 13 years or older who seeks one. Its founding principle is that access to affordable education is fundamental to any philosophy that respects all individuals, and fundamental to the American dream.

Modern States works like a global digital public library of great college courses. Enrollment in Modern States courses is to all people without regard to age, location, family income, nationality, prior credits or other factors. The courses provide a chance for any learner to take college-level courses for free, and also offer a critical “road back” for students who have left the traditional US college system.

Our free, high-quality online courses are taught by college professors and prepare learners for the CLEP exams. The College Board has offered these exams for more than 50 years, and nearly 3,000 colleges and universities nationwide accept them for Credit for Prior Learning. You can take one course or many. Strong exam scores can earn you college credits and save you tuition dollars. Each participating college decides what scores you need for credit.
